Extended partition

An extended partition is a container for other partitions. An extended partition is not formatted and has no drive letter. An extended partition is useful if you want to create more than four volumes on a hard disk. You may create one or more logical drives within an extended partition. After you create the logical drive within the extended partition, you must format it and assign it a drive letter.
